ELD Timeline
What is ELD?
As the name suggests, an electronic logging device or ELD is used to electronically record a driver’s Record of Duty Status (RODS). This replaces the orthodox paper logbook method that drivers/owners currently use to record their compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) requirements.
Does ELD mandate apply to me?
- Are you required to record RODS currently?
- Do you use Automatic On-Board Recording Devices (AOBRD's)?
- Do not fall under short-haul?
If all the above is Yes, then the mandate is applicable to you.
ELD Compliance requirement
- Until 18th December 2017 to get compliant – any vehicles found without ELD’s after this date will be charged with serious fines and would be temporarily out of business.
- ELDS must be certified, registered and listed on FMCSA website (check the list of registered ELDS here) https://3pdp.fmcsa.dot.gov/ELD/ELDList.aspx
- Till date 23 ELDs have been listed on FMCSA website
- Review their products and customer service online before buying.
- Automatically records all driving time and at intervals of 60 minutes. Records date, time, location, engine hours, vehicle miles, and driver identification
